Contemplative Christianity is the path less travelled. Few offer authentic genuine guidance. It is often disregarded by the mainstream church, even viewed with suspicion by some.
Yet it is an opening,
an expansion of consciousness to live ever more fully in the presence of God.
These words are not designed to be a ‘how to’, they do not give answers. It is a series of observations and experiences which may be helpful to those exploring.
It is a path full of life, of love and the deepest of peace. Sometimes it feels unbelievably hard – times of frustration, fear, doubt but intertwined with joy, wonder, awe, and love. It takes time, deep trust, and perseverance.
Rest gently, it can’t be forced or controlled, let go of expectations, of comparisons, of all,
And keep going,
keep going,
keep going…
Beginnings
Life can seem good, on the surface, to the onlooker, to the self.
A busy, comfortable life filled with family, friends, work, recreation.
And yet
And yet
And yet
Slowly, without being noticed time can become eroded – life’s demands fill every ounce of space. And with it a sense of unease creeps in, with a loss of peace and happiness.
Or a life event may occur, a loss, an illness, a difficulty which is hard to manage.
What does it mean for faith when everything becomes irrelevant or no longer makes any sense?
Is there a God in a world where suffering exists?
Why is there so much conflict?
Is there any point to religion?
What even is prayer?
If ever your faith is shaken ..
Everything you thought you believed becomes less certain – the rug has been pulled out from under you, what is left?
It might feel difficult, there may be sadness, fear, maybe you feel lost.
Yet this can be a time of growth, of exploration, a time to let go of holding onto what you ‘think’ and find who you truly are. To find in amongst all the uncertainly and difficulty, you are held and loved by God.
